Gifford House, Edinburgh

Hello from Edinburgh!

View from the train window - Berwick upon Tweed.

After a long day of train travel from London, not realizing there was such a thing as a 'quiet' coach, we put up with about a dozen young adult males drinking and 'entertaining' the whole coach. It was fine for about the first hour and then it just got to be annoying. After 4 1/2 hours, I was so ready to get off. Anyway, the scenery was great and it was a quick way to get here. We saw many black faced sheep and lots of wheat fields.

The view from our bedroom window. The hill to the left is Arthur's Seat.

Near our Inn is this building which is a part of the University of Edinburgh.

I didn't realize that Edinburgh was so hilly until we decided to walk from the train station to our B&B. It's a good thing we did a lot of walking in London, it certainly paid off here. We arrived at Gifford House and we are a fair hike to many of the tourist things, but there seems to be a fairly decent bus system here. We found our second traditional pub to eat our supper (around 7:30 pm) and the food was really quite good - no more mushy peas though! Edinburgh is certainly a lot less hectic than London, which is a nice change. From the window of our B&B we see Arthur's Seat - very cool. Tomorrow we are hoping to climb to the top, have breakfast and then head off to Edinburgh Castle.
I will try and post tomorrow night too.
